Sometimes when we go out to dinner, we’ll start talking to the people at the next table. It’s a great way to connect, especially in our car culture here in Los Angeles. This sweet couple are an artist (Mary) and an engineer (Robert) and were gracious enough to let me photograph them.

At one of our favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants, Thai Food Express, Shannon and her father and her husband Roger single handedly cook and serve delicious, fresh food with a warm smile. It’s the closest a restaurant comes to feeling like a home cooked meal made with love by someone who cares.
Much to our chagrin, Shannon is also a full-time student and hopes to retire from cooking to move on to a successful career as an educator. For now, we’ll enjoy being nurtured by her and her family.
